You can either fly directly or through Lisbon. There are 2-3 daily flights Lisbon-Funchal operated by TAP . Depending on the time of year the number of daily flights may vary.

Madeira Airport, also known as Funchal Airport or Santa Catarina Airport and opened on July 18, 1964, is one of the busiest in Portugal and serves the island of Madeira. It operates with domestic flights and international destinations within Europe.

Taxi
There is one taxi stand at the Arrivals area of Madeira Airport, level 0.
Taxis taking you from Madeira Airport to any destination on the island always operate with a meter. As a reference, the fare on the taxi meter at the start of the journey should read 4.00 € during the week.
All taxi services charge an additional 20% on weekdays between 21.00 and 6.00 on the following day, and throughout the day on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.
The transportation of luggage or animals is subject to an additional charge of 1.50 €
Public Transportation
Bus - SAM (Tel +351 291 201 151) operates services between Funchal (45 minutes trip), going through the airport, with a fare of €3.35. It leaves from 6:00 am to 8:10 pm. Intermediate stops include Caniçal, Baía d'Abra, Faial and Maroços. The Aerobus connects the enclosure with Praia Formosa, in Funchal, from 9:30 am to 0:45 am. Tickets have a cost of €5.00. It stops at Boa Nova, Campo da Barca, Praça da Autonomia, Marina Shopping and Estrada Monumental.
